OtherNum Loves Chirbit

One of the great things about attending startup community events is that you run into other entrepreneurs and you think of ideas to mash your technology together to create something new and different.

That’s where the mashup of OtherNum and Chirbit came from.

I met Ivan Reyes, founder of Chirbit, at StartupRiot in February and again at StartupAtlanta in March.  We talked about our platforms and the conversation quickly turned to mashups.  It was not long before Ivan had built out a simple XML API for posting audio URLs into Chirbit and I had modified OtherNum to use that API.

So what can you do with it?

Suppose you were a radio station and you wanted listeners to call in and leave you feedback about current events or some musical catastrophe.  With this mashup you can easily and quickly setup a phone number people can call and then the recordings they leave are automatically posted to your Chirbit account and also to your Twitter feed!

It’s super mega fantastic awesome.  I love it.  Want to try it?

Of course you do.  Call (512) 487-7958 and leave a message.  Your message will get posted on http://chirbit.com/othernum for the world to hear! (try to keep it clean, you naughty monkeys!)

All you need to set this up for yourself is to get an API key from Chirbit and plug it into the mailbox setup page of OtherNum.  Ta Da!
